For the next Freya String Quartet season concert, Electric, the group plugs in their instruments and presents a concert of all-amplified works. The journey begins with Ingram Marshall’s evocative and contemplative Entrada (At the River), followed by a truly iconic 20th century work for string quartet by Steve Reich. Different Trains is a powerful piece of documentary-music that ponders the composer’s cross-country train journeys as a child juxtaposed against concurrent train journeys in Europe transporting Jews to concentration camps. The concert concludes with  FSQ joining the Symbiotic Chamber Orchestra with The Ghost & Mr. Able, a new work by Pittsburgh composer and musician Sean Neukom. Ghost introduces a language steeped in the traditions of orchestral composers, pop artists, and rock bands, but moves forward from there rather than existing merely through those idioms.

There are three performances of this exciting program, and all of them take place in downtown Pittsburgh at the Wood Street Galleries.
